If you're reading this, you probably already know what the Cataclysm movies are about, and you're probably wondering when
they will be done. If you don't already know, then you may be wondering why there appear to be eight, but only three of them
are actually done. Well, to answer both of these questions, read on.
To start, it may be helpful to know where the Cataclysm movies originally came from. During the comic's second year, X and
Zero were introduced through some time travel, and this lead to the concept known as the "Cataclysm", some cataclysmic
event that ended the original Megaman series and set up the Megaman X series. Aside from a few hints from Capcom, very
little was officially said about what happened to the original characters. So I decided to tell my version of the story
with a series of Flash animations, featuring voice acting and artwork from members of the Bob and George community.
To help raise some money for the website, I decided to use the Cataclysm movies as a donation incentive, where donators
were allowed to view the movies first, with free general viewing available later. This worked really well for the first
movie, and soon enough the second movie came out with Ran. It took quite a while for the third movie to be finished, and
by then things had started to change in my life.
I graduated from college, found a job, moved to another state, and eventually got married. My free time diminished quickly,
and I stopped having much time to spend on the comic, much less the Cataclysm movies. Then when I had a massive donation
drive to help pay the down payment on a house, I pledged that any future Cataclysm movies would be donation free.
I've tried multiple times to finish the Cataclysm movies since then, trying different approaches, and each time the work
would start off strong, full of promises and hope, then dwindle until it was forgotten again. So I can't say whether the
movies will ever be done, though I have faith that they will, which is why this area of the site is still up.
And if they do get finished, they will be revamped from the original. Much of the material already produced will be the
same, though several things will change, including the ordering of scenes. Originally, each episode would have focused on
an individual character, jumping around in the actual timeline of the event, each piece contributing to the overall story.
In the revamped version, the chronology will be much more linear, with only three acts, divided into three or four chapters
each. Whether the movies would be released as three episodes or one big animation, I can't say. But the outline would look
like:
Act One
Chapter One: The End
Chapter Two: The Beginning
Chapter Three: Initiation
Act Two
Chapter Four: Round One
Chapter Five: Intermission
Chapter Six: Round Two
Act Three
Chapter Seven: Final Round
Chapter Eight: Blues
Chapter Nine: The End
