It's a pretty ingenious plan, if you think about it. Shift the blame from yourself to the person accusing you. Then, as long as you have the accused hanging from your ceiling, he can't defend himself, you can say anything you want about him, and everyone will have no reason not to believe you, especially if you're like Dr. Light and you want to believe.
