One of the biggest problem villains have when facing off against Bob is that they see him using his blaster and naturally assume that's all he can do. Bob has learned that you don't pull out the big guns until you absolutely have to, and sometimes getting beaten up a bit first is worth it just to see the look of surprise on the villain's face when he realizes you're much more powerful than anticipated.
