In the Year 21XX | I'm a Bastard |

The Author's abandonment of the comic is something I planned on addressing in the Cataclysm movies. Since it's possible they will never be finished, I'll just explain it here, though I'll mention that it's partially addressed in the Epilogue. During the events of the Cataclysm, the Author decided not to interfere, because he knew what's going on has to happen for the X series to take place. Ran confronted him and demanded his help. The Author tried to explain that he can't help, because anything he does will only make things worse. Ran refused to let up, and the Author finally gave in, equipping Ran with a more powerful Cossack Blaster (as seen in Plague's Misadventures). As is detailed in the second Cataclym movie, Ran ended up using the Cossack Blaster on Zero at the end, which not only knocked Zero clear out of the city, but also right into Dr. Light's hidden base, which pretty much directly resulted in Dr. Light's death. One could assume that without the Author's interference, Zero would never have found Dr. Light's base and Dr. Light would have survived the Cataclysm, though he probably would have stayed in hiding until he died naturally (due to the anti-robot sentiment that occured after Zero's reign of destruction). The Author foresaw this entire chain of events as soon as his conversation with Ran ended, and realized that, just as predicted, his involvement had only made things worse. As something of a penance, he then transformed into the Shadowy Author and disappeared, which explained who the Shadowy Author is, where he came from, and why he does what he does throughout the comic. Depressing, isn't it? |
