I don't know if I'd necessarily say Bass is stupid. He's definitely naive and often has trouble understanding what's going on, but that's not the same thing as stupid. Here, he doesn't understand why Proto Man, who knows Mynd is going to try to kill them all, is going along with this farce that Mynd is here as a friend. Clearly he doesn't understand the concept of "going along with the plot".
