Dr. Cossack's repeated efforts to get Ran to use Eddie had two purposes. First, it was funny. Second, it was a setup for Eddie's true reveal, as Ran's repeated refusals and the audience's knowledge of Eddie's current state would lead the readers to believe that Eddie is relatively worthless, making the reveal all the better.
