This comic was playing with the readers' expectations a bit. Since Eddie was shown in the previous comic, the natural assumption is that it's the same Eddie that Dr. Cossack is talking about here and the fans are familiar with, and he really wouldn't be that helpful in storming Dr. Wily's fortress. This, then, is part of the setup for Eddie's true reveal later. Also, keep in mind that Ran knows what's really going on and that killing Mega Man won't necessarily help save Kalinka.
