The problem with talking while being crushed like that is that once you breath out, the grip gets tighter, and you can't breathe back in. It's how a boa constrictor works. I think Proto Man and Nate weren't necessarily planning to crush Mynd with the fist. I think this was only one of many backup plans in case things didn't go the way they were expecting. The missiles were probably one plan, but if they didn't work, this was the backup plan. So when this plan fails, they've got more plans just in case.
