The reason the Author is where he is, is that the Shadowy Author redirected him on his way to the real Cataclysm. If the Shadowy Author was created when the regular Author saw the events of the Cataclysm, it's probably important that this Author not see the real Cataclysm, because it would probably screw up the normal flow of events. I really had planned to do a series of animated comics, but real life got in the way, and I missed a day, which screwed up the whole thing and I just didn't feel like doing it anymore. And, truth be told, it probably wouldn't have been as funny as I thought it would.
