There were a total of eight Doc Robots in the game, so I felt compelled to have a total of eight in the comic. As one's already been destroyed, it made sense that Dr. Wily, or his robotic clone, would have to create another seven. Which, by the way, is a force to be reckoned with if they're all as powerful as the first. I was reading 1984, since I hadn't read it before and it seemed like one of those books you're supposed to read at some point, if only to get all the pop culture references linked to it.
