I suppose the readers would be expecting some fancy special effects for George's release, but I just didn't feel like going to that much trouble, so instead they just got some action lines. By the way, George was captured on January 7th, and we first see him hanging from the ceiling on January 14th. So, not counting his excursion to the future, he was up there for more than six months. Of course, that's real time. In comic time, he probably wasn't up there more than a few hours, maybe a day, tops.
