While this drinking match between Mega Man and Dr. Light may have seemed pointless at the time, I was, in fact, planning on using it as part of Mega Man's explanation of how he turned evil. Specifically, he needed the alcohol to kill some important brain cells... or in Mega Man's case, I guess brain circuits. Of course, putting the fight on hold for several hours doesn't really make much sense, but I guess it could be argued that the time was needed for Bass and Nate to complete their merging, and for Roll to finish up her automatic repairs.
