This really is a rather complicated situation. Did millions of people die in that explosion? Yes. Was it Bob's fault? Not exactly. Did Bob stop an asteroid? Yes. Would it have killed millions? Yes. But keep in mind that it would never have threatened those millions if Bob wasn't trying to take over the world. Something else to think about is the fact that the Alternates are the ones to called it down. If Bob hadn't stopped it, they would have killed millions, if not billions of people, just to stop Bob. That's pretty messed up. And just in case the situation wasn't morally ambiguous enough, don't forget that Bob didn't stop that asteroid to save all those people, he did it to save himself. His entirely selfish act merely had the unintended consequence of not killing millions of people. |
