I think this explosion is from the fight between X and Proto Man. After all, I wouldn't expect Proto Man to be assimilated lightly. However, I don't recall anything about an explosion, much less a fight, in X's flashback later. By the way, that background is from Megaman 7, though I may have added that window. I used a similar background in one of the unreleased Cataclysm movies.
