I think George and X both have good points in this comic. Yes, X did assimilate everyone, so it's understandable that George would be willing to believe that X would just outright kill them. On the other hand, X assimilated them rather than killing them in the first place, so it's not unimaginable that he doesn't want to actually kill them.
