Let me start by saying that Khuffie, from Zelda Legends was very good to me and helped me out when I needed new hosting. I never had a problem with him. The problem was with his host. The deal, as it was, is that I could be hosted for free as long as I allowed whatever advertisements they wanted. I agreed to this, and was told that if the advertisements brought in more money than it cost for hosting, I might actually make some money out of the deal. The problem was that at the time, advertising on the internet was at an all-time low and hosting costs were at an all-time high. Many websites that relied on advertising to pay for their hosting and bandwidth had to shut down. As a result, not only did I never receive any money, but the hosts decided to add more and more ads, including the then-infamous pop-ups and pop-unders, which were super annoying and ultimately led to me leaving Khuffie for my own hosting plan. Now, with that out of the way, I think it's also important to say that without Michael Poe from Exploitation Now and Greg Dean from Real Life, I don't think the comic would have been nearly as popular as it was. At the time, they both had sections on their sites devoted to linking to up and coming webcomics, and Bob and George ended up on both. That lead to a huge boost in readership, which just continued to climb from there. |
