I don't recall exactly why the chat room moved from one server to another, though I think squabbling and trolls had much to do with it. The chat room is still hosted on Darkmyst as of this writing, and even if you don't have an IRC program, you can use a web applet at darkmyst.org. That's what I use to stop by and visit when I'm in the mood. As for the message board, ezboard was okay, but I would have preferred to have hosted them on the same server as the comic, if only for administrative purposes. My first attempt at that was with Ikonboard, but several of the more tech-savvy members of the community said there were too many security holes and recommended Burning Board. I'd never heard of it, but was assured it was excellent. The only problem was that all of the documentation was in German, which meant that if something went wrong, there was only one administrator who could fix it, and I barely knew the guy. So when a server crash deleted everything, it seemed like an opportune time to switch to something else. |
