This punchline is a reference to Mystery Science Theater 3000. For those of you unfamiliar, the show centered around a human stuck on a space station where he and his robot companions are forced to watch bad movies by an evil scientist. The gimmick is that the main characters then make fun of the movie they are forced to watch. Each segment of them watching the movie would follow a flashing red light referred to as the "Movie Sign".
