I like this joke, but I can understand if it doesn't make a lick of sense. To start with, Bob is pointing out that the game they're supposed to be in was made in 1994, and while the internet was not well known then, it did exist, though good luck getting game information out of it. That being said, while the game itself was made in 1994, it's supposed to take place in 20XX, which is at least 2010, and the internet is definitely around then. The comment about there being lots of gay people now is a reference to the last time I did a joke like this, which was back during Mega Man's encounter with Top Man in the Third Megaman Game storyline.
