If this punchline had any appeal for the average reader, I can only imagine it was because it's complete nonsense and therefore funny. (Which apparently many readers do find funny, if Shadow Man's appearances are any indication.) In reality, the whole thing is a very old joke with some of my high school friends. One friend, Chad, whom Chadling is based on really liked bananas, to the point that it was something we all noticed. In reality, he was probably just over-emphasizing his love of bananas to be weird. Anyway, I decided a love for bananas would be one of Chadling's personality attributes, even though this is the only time it ever came into play.
