For those of you who never visisted the chat room or read any of the other comics that Ran was in, the running gag was that Ran was so poorly built that everything kills him. A stiff breeze, a kiss, a hug, even a stern look. Now, in those other comics, he already had his regenerator working, which would instantly bring him back to life, in a sense, but since this was essentially his origin story, it hasn't been built yet.
I had resisted introducing this concept into my comic, as it had really been done to death already, but it is a pretty funny joke if you haven't seen it before, and I realized that many readers didn't read those other comics, so Ran was an entirely new concept to them. Still, I did try to be original and not completely overdo it. I wasn't always successful. Then again, when you're going to overdo something, you might as well go all the way.
Somehow the white space idea went off the rails, but no one cared.
