Mega Man wouldn't remember Gamma from the last game, since he wasn't involved in that incident. If you recall, he burned himself out with his fight with Doc Robot, and by the time Dr. Light had "repaired" him, Gamma had been defeated. Also, given the damage Mega Man has sustained, it seemed like having him crushed under Gamma's foot would be the final indignity.
