And now we see Helmut's evil plan finally come to fruition. By sending George back in time, he knew George would learn, and believe, the information about his helmet, which would then be used here. He knew George would be soft-hearted enough to not have him killed outright, but would instead attempt to banish him. Evil will always triumph because good is dumb.
