It was about this point I realized that, technically, shouldn't Dr. Wily remember everything that happened in the past? Shouldn't he remember coming across Bass in the past, co-opting him for his own nefarious purposed, having him erase that particular Mega Man's memory, and then being stopped by the combined forces of X and a Mega Man from the future? Shouldn't Dr. Wily remember that this Mega Man from the past was sent into the future to have his memory put back? Then again, I suppose it has been quite a number of years, from Dr. Wily's perspective, and a man his age can't be expected to remember every rather significant time-traveling event from his life, now can he?
