Those giant bugs are sub-bosses from Megaman X3. I was looking through the different sprite collections from the 16-bit games, looking for something to throw into the comic as, well, something of a sub-boss, and saw these giant bug things. They fit the bill, so it was giant killer bugs that attacked.
