The idea of the small Robot Masters combining to make a larger version of themselves reminded of something from Power Rangers, so I thought I'd throw in a reference to that. But upon investigation, I soon realized that Power Rangers was really just derivative of Ultraman, so I thought I'd up my nerd street-cred and go straight to the Ultraman source. That being said, I know next to nothing about Ultraman except that he gets really big and fights monsters. That monster behind him is apparently "Gudis", and both of those sprites came from the Ultraman: Towards the Future video game.
