Ran is really quite useful, but apparently only when it involves killing him. But, hey, he's more than willing to do this same thing later. Does doing something because you saw yourself doing it in a vision of the future make the act any less meaningful? Okay, but what if you were really going to do it anyway? And thus the Helmeted Author escaped, inevitably to meet up with Bob and wreak havoc on the comic later.
