I have no idea what Helmut's original plan was, but I guess he was hoping to kill Dr. Light after he'd killed everyone else. After all, if he killed Dr. Light right away, everyone else might start investigating, and that makes killing them off one by one all the harder. I didn't have any good sprites for Dr. Light to fall over, so I had it happen off-screen. Besides, I think seeing him fall over is not quite as funny as having him already be on the ground.
