I don't know if Dr. Light's just supposed to be extremely naive and gullible, or if he's just completely drunk off his ass. Knowing him, I wouldn't be surprised if it was a little of both. Actually, to be fair, Dr. Light's probably just in a huge amount of denial. I think he really, really wants to believe that Dr. Wily is good again, even if it means he has to ignore all the obvious hints Dr. Wily's giving off. After being so badly hurt by Dr. Wily's first betrayal, he doesn't want to go through that again, at any cost. He's like an abused wife. "Dr. Wily only tries to take over the world because he loves me..." Further, some sources say that Dr. Wily originally became evil due to a lab accident shortly before the first game. If that's the case, maybe Dr. Light feels responsible for what happened, and is willing to give Dr. Wily the benefit of the doubt, as some sort of restitution.
