Mike's survival came as a complete surprise for many readers. I'm not sure how many people realized that in the last comic Mega Man and Bass were standing at the same cliff Mike had fallen from, but I'm pretty sure those that didn't never expected Mega Man and Bass to find him alive at the bottom. A corpse, perhaps, but not alive.
