The nickname of "Ninja Ned" started as a nickname Roll gave to Mike back when they first met. At the time, it was just a stupid alliterative nickname that would eventually infuriate Mike and cause his downfall. But, like so many things in the comic, rather than leave it as a random thing, I started thinking about how it could have an actual meaning, which lead to this storyline.
