Like all good villains, Dr. Wily clearly feels the need to spell out his evil plan to the readers/audience, so that they might bask in all of his evil glory and stand in awe of his genius. I mean, what's the point in being evil if you can't gloat about how brilliant your evil plans are? Unfortunately, the mood is completely ruined by the third rehashing of the Wily-behind-the-back joke, though technically, this time it's right in front of him. I was a little concerned that too many instances of the same running gag in such close proximity might make the joke rather stale, so at this point I promised to the readers that I wouldn't do it again, as is suggested in the comic's title. And, to be fair, it was exactly one year before I did use it again. |
