The entire inclusion of Ran and the Uncle Sams was simply for this punchline. When I started thinking about making Star Man a movie star, I also had to think about how he would eventually be defeated, and I knew that Communism, specifically in the 50's, was the one thing that could destroy any movie star. And thinking about the 50's is what led me to Joe McCarthy.
