First, even though the regular alternates are just messing with the future alternates, what they say in the third panel is entirely true and perhaps quite prophetic. Second, you weren't really supposed to be distracted enough not to noticed the far future alternates shuffling toward the time machine while the future alternates are busy, almost as though they were waiting for this distraction before making their move.
