The Return of the Author | Just When You Didn't Think Things Could Get Weirder |

The comic you see before you is nothing like what I had originally planned. As you surely know by now from reading this commentary, after my first failed attempt with the hand-drawn comic, I went back to the sprites with the intention of figuring out some new way to make the hand-drawn comic work. About the time I was making this comic, I had put something together and I was originally planning to have half the comic be in sprites and the other half be in hand-drawn format, as an introduction to the new style. The second half would have appearance not by the Author, but by George. The idea was that the attack of the Yellow Demon would have been halted so the return of the hand-drawn comic could be announced. Then, at the last minute, I changed my mind, for good reason. The system I had come up with was abysmal. I don't know what I was thinking, but I was planning on using colored pencils and, I shit you not, crayons. I had crayon-colored backgrounds and everything. I guess I figured if the fans would stick around and read a sprite comic, they'd stick around for a crayon-drawn comic, right? Now, personally, I kinda liked the look and thought a crayon-drawn comic would be noticeably different from anything that was being done at the time. Luckily, just before I was about to put it up, I realized that maybe there was a reason it wasn't being done anywhere else. And, come to think of it, I may have been talked out of it by a colleague. Anyway, I threw out that idea and came up with this alternate ending to the comic, and the alternate ending to the storyline that follows. In the end, I think you'll agree that I made the right decision. |
