So while the Author didn't directly intervene in the previous storyline, he did tweak the portal to send Bob somewhere else. I suppose the nice part about this is that it leaves the characters with the impression that no matter what happens, no matter how bad things look, the Author will take care of things behind the scenes. I like the Author's last line, as a segue to the next storyline. I was trying to model it after scenes you occasionally see in less-than-serious movies when characters break the fourth wall to mention an upcoming scene change, or even a wipe effect like in Spaceballs.
