As I've said before, I was playing with the idea that Mega Man isn't really stupid, just pretending. It's a great way to get your opponents to underestimate you. This fits in well with the Mega Man being smart in the past, as perhaps a time ripple from the past made this Mega Man smart too. But to avoid any nasty paradoxes, he decided to pretend to be stupid. Unfortunately, he'd still slip up every once in a while and things like this would happen. You know, something very similiar happens in later. In fact, I may have used the same crater.
