I definitely knew who the imposters were by this point, no question. I mean, look at how perfectly the dialogue fits once you know who they are, and you assume their plan is actually to come in and try to take over the comic, after having been "spurned" twice. (The two spurnings, of course, being the two failed attempts to get the hand-drawn comic going.) The joke here is what can happen when too much is left unsaid. The last two comics have been made purposefully confusing, to throw off any speculation, but before you can start insinuating too much, you have to make sure you're both talking about the same thing. I mean, how many sitcom situations arise from someone not really understanding what a conversation was about and acting on an assumption? |
